Well... Saturday night's poker game (for points!). It had a lot of promise! Earlier in the week, we were looking at 8-9 players - and then like Travis' pants in Sigrid's office... it starting dropping.
We ended up with an acceptable 5 players, which still qualified for a points game - and it made a nice relaxing atmosphere... well, at least at first.
There are two things that are definitely worth mentioning.
The first thing, and the running joke for the night, was Todd's quad 10s! Long story short, Todd was holding a 10, and the board was showing J Q T T T.
The only other person in the pot was Travis, holding a J - meaning he had a boat, tens full.
On the river, Todd checks, Travis raises, and Todd moves all-in. Travis folds.
Now, if Todd simply calls, he would show his Quad 10s, and he would get 5 points for the amazing hand! But between the adrenaline and being just a little greedy, he went all-in, that, as mentioned, pushed Travis out, and he was not credited with the points. As it stands, to receive points for a hand, the hand MUST be shown during a showdown.
The next thing I remember, that's worth mentioning, is a hand that involved Todd and Marcel. I don't quite remember what was showing on the board, but that's really irrelevant. Marcel bet hard pre-flop, pushing everybody out except for Todd.
After the flop, it was either another strong bet or an all-in (I think it was the latter), and Todd wasn't interested in making that call... HOWEVER, he did want to see Marcel's card - so he took advantage of the all important peek card.
Now here's the odd part: Marcel DIDN'T want to show his cards! Even though he's required to show his hand because of the rules we've established with the peek card, he still didn't want to show them.
He was asking the dealer during that hand, Travis, to show the turn and river before showing his cards. Todd wasn't interested in seeing the following two community cards and asked again to see Marcel's cards.
Let's just say that at then end of all, Marcel made a mad dash for the cards to try and see the cards, Todd sent the cards flying... and Marcel eventually showed his cards in the form of top pair.
WHY in the world wouldn't he show his cards? and why was he so weird about it??? Man - sometimes I've just got to shake my head. I didn't want to get involved so I just let it be.. until Marcel starting mouthing off and saying that my opinion meant nothing - bla bla bla.
Just for the record:
1. When somebody presents you with a peek card, you are REQUIRED to immediately show your cards.
2. In the Moncton Poker Club, we've taken the habit to regularly go "rabbit hunting"... HOWEVER, this is NOT required.
3. Let's keep in mind that it's just a friendly game - I really don't understand the need of that scene last night.
So... moving on...
Marcel was the first one out, and I can't even remember the hand.
After that... it was the Dave "Race-it-up" show. Can you believe that I knocked everybody else out on a race??!
First was Ron. I moved all-in with pocket Jacks, just hoping to pick up the blinds, because I HATE pocket jacks. He called with AK
! ... and we're off to the races. The fop came 2 A J. What a scare! The following two cards were irrelevant and I took it down with Trip Jacks.
Next was Todd. The blinds are this point was something ridiculous like 200-400, and, being three-handed, I was ready to move in with any pocket pair, including 2s. So, Todd being the dealer, he raises it up, Travis folds, and I pushed all-in. Todd calls immediately. I show pocket 2s, and Todd shows AT, my favorite hand! So, another coin toss! The flop comes 10 2 9. YET another scare! But then, it wasn't over... the turn comes an Ace! So, any 10, any Ace, and Todd would take it down. I think the river came a three, and we're down to heads-up.
It didn't take long before they both Travis and Dave push all-in, Dave with pocket 4s, Travis with AJ... this was my third coin toss... could I get that lucky?
The flop came 323. Still looking good. The turn, a King. The river, a King. Both with two pairs, but Dave with Ks and 4s... Travis with Ks and 3s.
.. and that's it. Good time had by all (aside from it getting a little rowdy)... thanks for the good times guys!

Hahaha, and speaking of fabrications... Holy Fuck man, what poker game were you at??
This is how it ALWAYS goes down when ANYONE uses their peak card. Player A bets high, player B, C ,D fold or whatever. The hand is DONE, DEAD, OVER. Someone displays their peak card and Player A graciously flips over their cards, with no fuss. Not 1 card, BOTH cards. I'm sorry if you cannot comprehend how the peak card works.... No one at any time had ANY issues showing BOTH their cards when presented with someones peak card. Also I had NO issues with you "playin it out" AFTER you showed me your cards. Don't whine and complain because you can't grasp the simple concept of the peak card.

Marcel here. After reading Dave's fabrication...I mean publication I just wanted to say I have no problem with the peek card/rule. Never have. I had a problem with Todd's attitude. I asked Trav to play out the hand. That's when Todd demanded to see my card's first. I'm not going to be bullied. It's supposed to be a friendly game of poker. I didn't come there to be pushed around. I can stay home for that. So I held my ground. Sure it was immature. I don't care. That's it. Todd, you may be my hero, but I'm not your bitch.

Finally, Travis, I hear your table top is getting heavier and heavier. It must be the half bottle of gin and 5 lbs of dog drool.
