MPC team heads-up game is SUNDAY!!!!!

by Marc Julien • October 29, 2010

NEW TEAM UPDATE!!!

Roland has kept his secret weapon in the dark until now!  Sources tell me that Barb Russell has accepted a lucrative contract from Roland to play with him this Sunday at the Team Heads-Up match.  Roland had dropped hints all week saying that his teamate was going to slaughter the competition, lets hope he doesnt slow Barb down!!!

With ONE WEEK left before the big MPC team heads-up poker game things are already heating up!

With much hype and always loved by mpc competition, players Dave Robichaud and Marc Julien are teaming up to gang bang the title away, teams are forming to try to prevent their championship run.  Chris Campbell and Marcel Maillet have decided to be one of those challenges and will be a force to be reckoned with, they have their sites on the title!  Surprise team so far has to be Chris Boulay and Ken Alcorn teaming up together, lets hope Ken's rust at MPC format tournaments doesnt affect their team play, hopefully Boulay will be able to carry his teamate!

HALLOWEEN NIGHT UPDATE!!!

Jim Blacquiere and Lou Blacquiere have decided to have some father son bonding time and are going to be the 4th team in this exciting match!  If Lou ends up with a can of Schooner and Jim has a can of booze concoction with hints of lime, nutmeg and some razzy dazzy name on the label...opponents are in serious trouble!

Hey Marc! Barb slaughtered the competition while I was there for color commentary and NO!!! I did not slow down the Barb juggernaut. Never underestimate the teaming of a man and woman. We brought it today. This was a lot of fun playing a different kind of format. Keep up the new and innovative ideas. Regards, Roland "The Hook" Gallant!!!

A rusty half retired tight player?  Hmm.. seems to me we had a 5-2 record.  Most wins and had to play the most matches to get to final.  Not to take anything away from Roland and Barb either.

I gotta say I thought it was a ton of fun.  Would definitely participate again or host myself.  I would suggest re-working the structure though.  Again, kinda strange to have the most wins.. yet still lose.  Not that I'm bitter.

The schedule that was used was the exact schedule that would be used for any high school/whatever organized sports 6 team double knockout tournament, by going to the "loser bracket" just means that it is a tougher road to the finals.

if you can find an upgraded "double knock out format for 6 teams" I have no problem using it for sure, we google it and thats what came best out for 4-5 options.

stop complaining about your 5-2 schedule...my math may be off but Dave and I finished 0-2!   ;) hehehe

Roland&Barb played 2 games and ended up in the finals. They played a total of 4 games to win $100.

Boulay&Ken played 5 games and ended up in the finals. They played a total of 7 games to win $20.

Like Rolland&Barb, Mel&Josh also had a by in the next round. If Mel&Josh would have won their 2 first game, they would have been in the finals.

Because of a 6 team format and Rolland&Bard + Mel&Josh both had bys, the perfect scenario would have been for both of these team to lose their first games. This would have even out the playing field.

Perhaps the next time, for the teams who gets a by on the first round, that team only gets a single knockout instead of a double. Just an idea.

Either way, I would play again. Hopefully next time we can get 8 teams.

Yeah, we could definitely try something like that... but this is regulation 6-team double knockout structure.  People who have played any kind of sports know that teams that end up in the losers bracket always play more games.  That's just the way it works.

Google "6 team double elimination" and you'll see that every example that comes up is the one we used.  Google can't be wrong.

In case anybody was curious, here's the official tournament and how it played out.  Thanks to Jim for scanning it for us!

Congrats to Barb and Roland who were, by far, the biggest underdogs at the tournament.  Not because of their skill level, but combined, they hadn't won even one game.  Now they each have a win next to their name!  Great job guys!
