Season IX - Game 2

by Jim Blacquiere • October 24, 2010

Game 2 of season 9 started off pretty good. 14 registered players for a tiny $15 buy in with $3000 starting chip stack, which pretty much qualifies as a deep stack poker tournament.

Table 1 had Dana, Barbara, Angela, Matt, Chris, season 8 player of the year Jim and MPC rookie Stacy.
Table 2 had season 8 champion Marcel, Roland "the Hook" Gallant, season 5 champion Marc, Lindasy, MPC rookie Shawn, Fearless "Boulay" and Lou.

Early rounds on table 1 had some pretty tight friendly pots with no one really bullying and taking command of the table. Except for Barbara, who was running the table and collecting chips like there was no tomorrow with river cards and no concern about making any friends at the table. Barbara's edge - bring as much food treats to butter up your opponents. Dana got short stacked and came back to eventually move up to chip leader on the table.

Table 2 appeared to have some very aggresive players and some very early all-in moments. Boulay was the first victim of busting out but he quickly visited the cashier to rebuy. Lindsay then busted out from the aggresiveness of the stacked table. Boulay's rebuy unfortunately didn't pay off which eventually had him busted shortly after Lindsay.

To even the table count, Jim needed to move over to table 2 in Boulay's seat. Being short stack, he pushed all in with his best hand in 2.5 hours. QJ of diamond failed against rookie Shawn's pocket 9s.

Matt was the next to bust out. Without knowing any details, I'm going to assume he needed to go comfort girlfriend Lindsay. :)

Marc busted with his pocket 10s against pocket Queens, I think. Dana busted out next in 9th. Not sure what happened there, but that must be a very disappointed finish for the Maple Leaf fan who eventually watched the rest of the Toronto- Flyers hockey game with the Leafs losing the Philly. Ouch!

Angela made it to the final table short stack and unfortunately couldn't get anything going with the bigger blinds taking a toll, finishing 8th. Marcel was the next the bust out in 7th with a roller coaster day of poker.

Rookie season player Stacy made the final table respectively and finished in 6th place. 3 other players busted out within 45 minutes after. Solid finish.

Chris Campbell had an up & down roller coaster day as well, but still ended up in 5th place. Same placing as Game 1. The boy is consistent.
Lou's patience and luck finally paid off with some amazing double ups towards the end. From extremely short stack to almost chip leader within the final rounds gave Lou a well respected 4th place money finish.

From the peanut gallery, it would appear that Roland "The Hook"  was nursing his massive chip stack for several blind levels. It really looked like he was aiming to win a MPC tournament. Rookie Shawn put a quick stop to this with his never ending 2 pair flop fiasco. Congratz to Roland for a well deserved money finished.

Heads-up was Rookie Shawn and soon to be tattooted Barbara. Shawn took advantage of his massive 20-1 chip lead against Barb, pushing her all-in blind each hand. Barbara only hand 3 or 4 big blinds going into heads up eventually force her to call the remaining of her stack with K3. Shawn revealed his blind "all-in" 9-5 unsuited. Pic below pretty much tells the story. Shawn hit again his never ending 2 pairs to take down the tournament.
