Season 8's Big Pot

by Dave Robichaud • September 20, 2010

Here are some pictures that Angela sent to me shortly after the game, but because I'm such a huge douchebag, I completely forgot to post them.  Check them out!

Jim, as reigning MPC champion, walks in with some Phil Hellmuth flair!  Comes in fashionably late, music playing (from his groin?) and in a spartan-like outfit.  We all got a huge laugh from this and it definitely set the tone for a fun day.

Here are the pictures taken at Season Eight's Big Pot game!  Feel free to write you experiences, thoughts, and opinions of the game in the comments section below.

Before the day began, we awarded Jim with his player of the year winnings!  The winnings consisted of the entire season's fees, and was paid out in toonies!  Hence, Jim's weird fence.

Here is Ron scooping up a BetFair package (BetFair ball cap and BetFair golf shift) for being the first one busted out after the merge.

The merged table and everybody having a good time.

Dozer!!

I'm pretty sure I had Aces.  My poker face sucks.

Buddy Christ.  I approve this.

Final table shenanigans.  Marc looks amazing with his glasses and popped collar.

Once Jim, PLAYER OF THE YEAR, was felted, everybody else celebrated with a shot of tequila that I got from Mexico.  Cheers!

Down the hatch.  Look at poor Jim.

We quickly realized that we all hate Tequila.  My face is pretty funny, but Chris' face is hilarious!

Dana winnig a PokerStars.com Toronto Maple Leaf t-shirt for being the first to bust out who was a Leafs fan.  Who roots for the Leafs anyway?

Marc Julien with his 4th place winnings.

Chris with his 3rd place winnings

Final hand.  Of the 20,000 chips on the table, I had approximately 5K, and Marcel had about 15K.
We got it all in pre-flop, me with Ace of Diamonds Three of Spades and Marcel with King of Clubs Jack of Clubs.

This gives me a slight edge with winning 53.48% of the time, Marcel only 46.03% (and the balance is a split pot)

The flop comes Seven of Spades Four of Spades Two of Spades

This is an amazing flop for me.  Not only is my hand still best with the A high, I flopped a flush draw, which now only gives Marcel 4 outs (King of Diamonds King of Hearts Jack of Diamonds Jack of Hearts)

The odds are now heavily stacked in my favor to the tune of 88.48% vs 11.52%.

The run comes a meaningless Eight of Clubs which still leaves Marcel with 4 outs and only 9.09% to win.

The river... SHAZAM.  Miracle Jack of Hearts and the game's over.

If I win that hand, we're about even in chips and I would feel really comfortable with my chances of winning.  Alas, another year has slipped me by.  Watch out next year!

Here I am, half in the bag, and with my 2nd place winnings.

Marcel, the new MonctonPokerClub.com champ, sitting with his 1st place winnings, all the chips, and the coveted trophy.

Thanks to everybody who participated in season eight and made it so great.  We may not be a lot, but I feel like we have a really solid group and an excellent atmosphere during our games.

I had an awesome time, and can't wait for season nine!!
