Things left behind

by Jim Blacquiere • September 14, 2010

I've hosted quite a few tournaments at my place since joining the Moncton Poker Club about 5/6 years ago. I always find it very intriguing to clean up after a big tournament. The things I find the day after, which are left behind from players, are pretty funny.

I love playing multiple poker table tournaments. The biggest tournament so far at my place was last season's final points game. We had 2 tables filled with 11 players each. I only wish it could happen more often.

Tournaments usually end up finishing around 2:30am, so cleaning up this time in the wee morning is the last thing I want to do. At 2:30 at night, all I want to do is have another drink and enjoy my poker winnings. Smile

So this post is not about the mess left behind or the crumbled chips on the floor and the dozen of empty beer cans left laying around, this post is about the collection of things I find left behind. The mess after the poker party is expected, that's part of the territory when hosting a poker game. Don't worry folks, it's all good!

The things I find the day after are, extra poker chairs, a variety of card covers and card cover toys, the odd hat, an Old Navy sweater which mysteriously showed up and no one has yet to claim it, coffee mugs, a jacket once in a while, etc. The only thing I haven't found yet are bras & panties. You people are a tight group of poker players. Ur, wait a second, let me rethink that!

I also find it pretty funny when I do my rounds to pick up all of the bottles and cans. Some people do drink some odd beverages out there. Some of food treats left behind always makes it an interesting clean up as well. No wonder there's lots of birds and raccoons in my backyard the next morning. Smile

In any case, I always enjoy hosting a great poker tournament. Whether I win or lose, it's always a great time!

Jim (your 2010 MPC Player of the Year) hehehehe!

Nice letter Jim.  I have an idea...bring the lost and found items to the championship game this weekend.  Perhaps those that have lost stuff will recognize it and get it back.  Whatever doesn't get claimed can be turned in to prizes...ie 1st out gets the broken lawn chair, 2nd out gets the dirty old Kent Building Supplies hat, biggest complainer about how cold it is at dave's could get the sweater and so on.  Make a list of the prizes and come up with a suitable, but funny situation to win it.  Good luck all, you're gonna need it as I am motivated to go the distance again.

And good luck to you too, because I'm going to play tighter than a Mike Madasow at a cash game.

So Ron, if you're thinking about reraising me with your A9 suited, think again. When I raise on Sunday, everybody better fold.

Jim you cant play tight, your big stack will go to your head and you'll be the 6th one busted out.  smart money is on me to win it all anyways.
