Hey everybody!
I am introducing a new element to the Moncton Poker Club and I’m hoping everybody likes it. If there are enough participants, we’ll keep it going; if there are not, I’ll kill it.
Starting next game (Marcel’s on May 3rd), we are going to begin a bad beat jackpot! It is important to note that your participation in the bad beat jackpot is 100% voluntary. In brief, during each official MPC point game, all point players will have the opportunity to pay $2.00 towards the Bad Beat Jackpot. If you pay, you are then eligible to win said jackpot. If it is not won, the money is carried over the following game, until it is won. A bad beat is considered a full house that is beaten (by a better full house, quads, or a straight flush). Example: TTTQQ vs AAAQQ. In this example, the losing full house (TTTQQ) has suffered a bad beat.
Rules:
The website has already been updated to show the current bad beat jackpot (which is obviously at $0). We will be updating it after every game, if the jackpot is not paid out.
Also, the official MPC rules has been updated with all of the above rules so there are no discrepencies when the jackpot will be paid out.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Cheers!
Dave

Example: TTTQQ vs AAAQQ. In this example, the losing full house (TTTQQ) has suffered a bad beat.
Rules:
- A bad beat is a full house that is beaten.
- Participation is voluntary.
- The fee must be paid before the start of the game. If you arrive late or forget to pay, you are not able to participate for that game.
- Only official MPC point players are allowed to participate.
- The bad beat jackpot can only be awarded during an official MPC point game.
- There must be a showdown.
- Participants do not need to use both cards in their hands.
-
If a bad beat has been suffered, the jackpot will be paid 70% to the person who received the bad beat, and 30% to the person who gave the bad beat. If one player has not paid his or her fee for that game, the entire jackpot will be paid to the other person. If neither player has paid the bad beat jackpot fee, the pot will not be paid.
Although the money is carried over from game to game, if a player does not pay the fee for the current game, they are not eligible. -
If there are more than 2 people involved in a bad beat hand, only the best losing hand will be considered the loser. If two or more players have the exact same hand, then that portion of the money will be divided equally.
Example: Player 1 has AAATT, Player 2 has AAAKK, and Player 3 has AAAAQ. In this scenario, Player 2 has suffered the bad beat, Player 3 has given the bad beat, and Player 1 is not a factor. - The bad beat jackpot must not be discussed during the hand by the participants. Players are not allowed to say “let's check it down so we can get the bad beat jackpot”. Players caught will result in an automatic disqualification to the bad beat jackpot.

Do we even play enough games to see this bad beat scenario take place? I think my chances are greater to have my ass kicked by a kangaroo!
