Season 7!

by Dave Robichaud • April 14, 2009

Hey guys!

First of all, I would like to apologize for the boatload of sass I've given to the MPC in form of procrastination. I've been stupid busy with school over the last month and wasn't able to get season 7 off the ground. But let's not delay this anymore!

Season 7 officially starts... TODAY!

So, let’s go over a few things about super season seven:

Season fees: We’re going to change it up this season. There will be a $20 fee to begin the season and is required the first game you attend. This will give you an immediate 50 points. In addition, there will be a mandatory $2 fee every game. This fee will award you 5 points just for showing up!

(There is also the normal $3 season fee for administration and website fees that is required at the first game.)

Why did I do this?
  1. This will ease the pain of dumping the entire fee up front by splitting it up every game. (I had some feedback that the entire season fee plus the first game buy-in was a lot to spend in one shot – particularly for couples)
  2. Using this method, we should actually see an increase in the big pot for the final game.
  3. This should add incentive for players to show up for games with guaranteed points each game.

The game fee is to be paid to Ron at the start of each game. Don’t give him a hard time or make him chase you for the cash… he has the strongest hands that have ever been on my bum.

It is also important to note that all the money is non-refundable and goes directly into the big pot.

Game days: There are TWO things to keep in mind for official MPC point games.
  1. There will no longer be Friday night games. There are too many people that can’t make Friday nights and, although I realize I am not able to accommodate everybody, this seems to be the biggest problem. So, official point games can only scheduled on Saturday or Sunday afternoons (and holidays).
  2. There must be AT LEAST a one week gap between each official point game. This will give a little bit of breathing room between each game and prevent the games from getting stagnant (as we have seen in the past). Also, with summer coming, I’m sure we don’t all want to be playing cards inside every week. Furthermore, this should help increase attendance – I anticipate players making more of an effort to come out for games since they are only every couple of weeks, instead of every weekend.

Prizes: There are a ton of prizes this season that I will award at my discretion. How players win prizes will be explained at the beginning of random games. So show up when you can, there may be a prize awarded!

Also, I'm still speaking with BetFair.com to work out deals for online tournaments in case anybody is interested. They have given us a lot of prizes so I would appreciate if people made an effort to check out their site / poker software.

So… the first game will be this Saturday at my place! And to break it down (in case you’re not good at math...), you will need to bring: $10 (buy-in) + $20 (season fee) + $2 (game fee) + $3 (administration fees) = $35

(I purposely made a cheap buy-in game because of the initial expenses.)

… and that’s it! Give me a shout if you have any questions or concerns.

See you all at the tables.
Cheers
Dave
