Final Regular Season Game of Seasaon Six

by Dave Robichaud • January 18, 2009

Some people have all the luck and this was definitely the case during the last regular season game of season six.

The game itself was fairly uneventful. To my recollection, there were no real interesting hands.... However, heads up, was VERY interesting! It was Christine versus Mike. I don't know the exact chip count, but it was very close... Christine might have been up by 1000 or so.

Little pots were traded back and forth until this one; I believe it was a limp pot going to the flop.

The flop comes: Five of Spades Jack of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Mike bets out, Christine pushes all in, Mike insta-calls. The cards are flipped over:

Christine shows Jack of Clubs Jack of Spades (giving her a set of Jacks), Mike shows Queen of Hearts Four of Hearts giving him top pair.

For those of you that are good at math or have a poker calculator, this gives Mike a 1.31% of winning the hand. Think about this for a second. If we were to play it out 100 times, he would win ONCE. Those are ridiculous odds. The turn and river need to come perfect perfect. Either running quads or running boat (while avoiding the last Jack).

Sure enough, the turn comes the Queen of Clubs. But that still only gives Mike a 15.91% chance to win. The river needs to come any five, four, or, of course, the case Queen.

BAM! The river hits... Queen of Diamonds. WTF?!?! Runner runner quads. I want me some of that luck! I think the best part of the hand was the dance Mike did after he hit quads... it's by far, the most animated I've ever seen him.

Mike's Quads

This left Christine with 1100, I think. With the blinds at 300/600 at the time, it's do or die.

She pushes on the very next hand, and rightfully so when she flips over Ace of Spades King of Clubs

Mike calls with Ace of Clubs Three of Clubs. Mike's in a dominated position and is only 29.8% to win.

The board comes Eight of Spades Four of Clubs Five of Hearts Two of Spades King of Diamonds giving Mike the wheel, and the game.

Final Hand of the Game

The quads, the bounty, and the win gave Mike enough points to leap into second place. What a crazy game.

I had to deal with Christine hitting the LAST seven in the deck to get trips over my top pair, doubling up 2 players with just bad luck, and getting Q9 as my best hand in the last 3 hours (and when I pushed, by the way, I ran into AK). I'm hoping Mike's luck ran out and I'll get some of that for the big pot game!

That said, thanks to everybody who came out, it was a good time! (and I wasn't the first one out!!) Marcel was a great host as usual.

The official results can be found here.

Congrats to Mike and I'll see you all at the big pot game next week!

Any video clips of the Mike dance? Is it comparable to a NFL receiver after a touchdown pass or something more like a Ellen DeGeneres dance?

I would say it's more of a cross between the Star Wars kid and the Macarena.

So you are saying that it could have been a YouTube moment and become an internet sensation?

If that didn't catch on, I don't know what would. It was like... The Bird is the Word meets The Peacock meets 1 Guy / 1 Cup.
