It has become a tradition to end each Moncton Poker Club season at Static Sounds Studio - and this season was no different. 19 players fighting for $500 and the prestigious MPC "pair of jacks" trophy!
This end-of-season game was a bit different as we saw, for the first time, players not attend. The 3 short stacks, James, Aaron, and Mark decided their time would be better invested outside in the 35 degree weather we had, rather than play poker inside; pfft... suckers! Also, Jim, who had a significant chip stack, did not attend.
A quick draw for seats, and we were on our way! There was an odd distribution of players as 3 of the 4 missing players were picked for one table. This meant a lot of dead blinds but quicker hands. It didn't seem to matter though, as all the dead chips were removed from the table at the first break - as per MPC rules.
Dana was the first casualty in the game. However, he clearly stated prior to the game "I'm going to be pushing a lot, so either I get busted out or the game will be done early because I have all the chips. Either way, I'm going to the beach!" I think I may be paraphrasing or possibly even throwing in my own words... but it was something like that.
The next 4 to drop were the missing players... their chips were removed once we reached the first break. After the break, people starting dropping like flies! Within the next hour and a half, 4 more people were felted and we were able to merge.
The only girl to be busted prior to the merge was Sherry, which shaped the final table with a 2:3 women vs. men ratio. This didn't last long though, as after Tony was knocked out, Julie, Christine, and Angela lost all of their chips, respectively... leaving only one girl: Carole. Would Todd be able to regain the throne, would Carole be able to fend off 5 other guys for the title, or would Jeff E be able to repeat? Well, keep reading!
Mike busted on the bubble, leaving Carole, Dave, Jeff E, Marcel, and Todd in the top 5. Dave was out shortly thereafter and picked up a handsome sum of $2.60! - The interest accumulated over the season from the big pot.
Down to 4-handed: 2 previous season winners, the day's 2nd biggest starting chip stack, and the last girl standing. The blinds were getting ridiculously huge. There was approximately 27,000 in chips on the table and with the blinds 300/600, nobody seemed to be comfortable to make any significant moves. That is, however, until Carole started a little something I like to call ALLINALAPALOOZA. The once timid Carole became a ferocious and feared competitor at the table. The guys were laying down HUGE hands and showing a lot of respect for Carole's game.
Carole knocked out Marcel... and then Todd - leaving her heads-up with Jeff E. She still had significantly less chips than Jeff, so it was an uphill battle. That is, however, until they were dealt two monster starting hands.
Jeff E had
and Carole, pocket Queens. The board did not help Jeff E and Carole doubled up - leaving him crippled.
The very last hand of the day: both players limp into the pot and the board comes 9 high. Carole checks over to Jeff E, at which point he pushes all-in. Carole insta-calls. Jeff E had K9, flopping top pair, and Carole slow-played pocket Aces! The turn and river did not help Jeff and that was it... Carole is the newest Moncton Poker Club Champion! Congrats Carole!
Take a look at the entire results here.

Thanks to everybody for a great season and thanks to Kevin Govereau and Jeff E's nephew for dealing for us for the entire day!
MPC's season 5 will begin at some point in September so keep an eye out for an e-mail to reserve your spot!
One last bit of business to take care of... poker table raffle! At Jeff/Justin's fundraiser, we told everybody that we were going to delay the raffle of the poker table in hopes to sell more tickets. Well, did we ever sell more tickets! We were able to sell enough tickets to raise $500!!! That's an amazing outcome! Thanks to everybody who purchases tickets to support this great cause.
Special thanks goes out to the man who made this all possible: Jim Blaquiere. Without his generosity of donating one his fine poker tables, this raffle would obviously not be possible. Thanks a ton Jim! Check out Jim's Custom Poker Tables here.
As was promised at the fundraiser, Justin picked the winner. He rummaged his hand through a bag of over 500 tickets until he pulled the lucky winner..... Dave Robichaud! I swear, it was TOTALLY LEGIT. I poured some of the tickets out to show that I didn't rig it or anything.... so... umm... Congrats me!

Jim Blacquiere's FINE looking table that was raffled.
So that's it... at the end of the day, everybody had a good time, Carole's the new MPC champ, $500 went to Jeff and Justin, I won a beautiful looking table... good times!
As mentioned, I'll be sending out an e-mail at some point in September for MPC Season 5 - so until then, I'll see you at the tables!
