BIG POT GAME aka Le Gros Pot

by Jeff Cormier • March 4, 2007

Season Three ended where it began... at Static Sounds Studio.
The Big Pot had 22 out of a possible 26 players on two kick ass tables made by MPC's Jim Blacquiere.

First one out was shortstack Tony Knockwood, who guaranteed he would double up in the first 5 hands. Well it only took three hands to bump him off.

The day progressed nicely and we saw some crazy action:

Marcel's pocket aces getting cracked by Jim's quad nines.

Marc Julien crippling Carole Savoie with a two outter river draw. Both players tripped aces but Carole had a J kicker and Marc had a 10.
Marc pushed all in on the turn and Carole called. Marc knew he was beat and got up from the table. River came and it was a 10!!
Jeff C. folded a ten so Marc was left with only two outs and he hit!

The end, however, was a little anti-climatic.
Chip Leader, Mike 'Bootleg' LeBlanc was facing a dilemma. It was 8:20pm and he had be at work for 9pm. He just took out three players in a row, Season 2 Champ - Todd Melanson, Julie Pham, then Marc Julien.
It was a heads up battle between two MPC rookies and co-workers, Mike and Jeff. Earle, with Mike having over double the amount of chips compared to Jeff's stack.
With Mike having to leave because of work and knowing he would be blinded out if he did leave, he proposed a gentleman's agreement with Jeff. E.
He would hand over the title of MPC Champ if they wanted to split the 1st and 2nd place prize money. Jeff. E. accepted and was crowned the Season 3 MPC Champ.

Was it an exciting finish? No. BUT it was a great season and a very fun filled Big Pot Tournament.
With Season 4 set to begin in two weeks, we'll have to wait and see if Jeff Earle can be the first to repeat as Champ. So far both previous Champs finished 5th in the Big Pot games.

See you at the tables!
