Fundraiser a Great Success!!

by Kim Robichaud • December 17, 2006

Wow! I heard lots of great comments about the poker tournament at Shakers, and everybody had a lot of fun. Thank you so much for coming in such a big number. Congratulations to all the winners!

My family and I wanted to thank everybody who have shown us such love and support in these very difficult times. Learning about this sudden medical condition and far away surgery was a shock at first, then we were filled with anxieties wondering how we would get to Montreal. This disappeared almost instantly the day my brother came up with the idea of holding a fundraising poker event. Then suddenly, one week later, our babysitter for our youngest quit on the spot, leaving us with no childcare, which will force Chris to take a leave of absence unpaid to take care of the children and myself during my operation and recovery. This brings me to a few personal thank yous that I'd like to point out:

To my brother, Dave, who was the master planner behind this whole poker event. He came up with the idea, sent out communications, contacted companies for prizes so that all the funds could be sent to my family, contacted Randy O'Brien and successfully got the Shaker's Lounge as the place to hold the event, and signed all the players up on the website. He worked very hard on this event for the past week, and Dave, I am very grateful for everything that you have done for us. Even after Dave and I received some recent bad news, he kept on trucking, and pushed forward with the event and made it the success that it was. Thank you Dave. We love you!

To my hubby Christian, who stayed calm which allowed me to freak out during the medical news. Thank you for taking good care of our boys while I was in the hospital, and taking good care of me while I was recovering at home after my procedure in Moncton. I love you!

Thank you Christine Lewis for being such a huge help to Dave planning this event. You worked very hard to make this a success as well, and we really appreciate it. *HUGS*

Thank you to Via Rail for graciously offering the roundtrip tickets as our top prizes for this event. This company is amazing. They received an email explaining our situation, and they immediately jumped on board by donating these great prizes to help our family. Travel Via Rail!

Thank you to Randy O'Brien for offering the Shaker's Lounge to hold the event, and donating two prizes for the tournament. You da man!

Thank you to Dana Scott of White Monkey Tea Company for not only donating a beautiful gift basket as a prize, but Dana also creatively came up with a great idea to donate even more to the cause. Dana currently has his tea kiosque in Champlain Mall, directly in front of the Walmart Entrance. For every bag of Orange Pekoe, Monk's Blend and Earl Grey Tea (my choices!) that he sells until the end of December, he will donate $2.00 per bag directly to my family. He also has a wide variety of fun and delicious teas (over 100 varieties) including bubblegum and mango tea (both great!) So go see Dana and buy some tea! Plus he's cute too!

Thank you to Elizabeth Evans of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts for being our main contact, and successfully getting the great picnic in a basket prize.

Thank you to Sony for donating all the Sonywear that we were able to offer to the 1st prize winner, as well as give out A LOT of door prizes.

Thank you RBC Royal Bank, Blue Cross Branch on Main Street, specifically Francis Richard, Senior Account Manager who held a 50/50 draw with all staff, proceeds going to my family.

Thank you to ALL my family who constantly gives us love and support. Your helpfulness is overwhelming and we appreciate everything that you do for us! *KISSES*

Thank you to the people who could not attend the poker event who have made donations directly. Some of you, I've never even met, and your kindness and generosity really touches my heart. And thank you to those of you who helped my brother in any shape or form to get make this poker tournament successful. Thank you!
